Our Team



   Since he was initially elected to office in 2004, the citizens of Radford have re-elected Sheriff Armentrout for two additional terms.

Sheriff Armentrout developed the first operations manual, instituted several innovative programs including Good Morning Radford, TRIAD and Operation Lifesaver.


   Major Charlie Burton joined the sheriff’s office in 2018. He is a former Radford City Police Department Sergeant for 16 years.

He is responsible for general administrative duties, supervision and training. He assists with civil process and court security as needed. He is also a General Instructor, Driving Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Field Training Officer, and Serious/fatal Crash Investigator.


   Lieutenant Greg Hedge joined the sheriff’s office in 1993. He began his career in the Radford City Jail before the New River Valley Regional Jail was constructed.

He is responsible for the front line supervision of the sergeants and is the agency authority on civil process and courtroom security. He is also a Field Training Officer.


   Sergeant Jason Phillips joined the sheriff’s office in 2004.

His responsibilities in the office include front-line supervisor to the deputies in the area of court security, civil process and inmate transports. Sergeant Phillips is also a General Instructor and a Field Training Officer.


   Sergeant Dwayne Owens joined the sheriff’s office in 2006.

His responsibilities in the office include front-line supervisor to the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) deputies. Sergeant Owens is a Field Training Officer and a General Instructor. He is the certified D.A.R.E. officer/instructor for the Radford City Schools.
   Deputy Jeremy Compton joined the Radford Sheriff’s Office in 2016.

He was previously employed with the Lewis-Gale Montgomery CIT program. He is a member of our Crisis Intervention Team (CIT). He is responsible for CIT, court security and civil process. He is also a Public Safety Diver.


   Deputy Gary Daily joined the Radford Sheriff’s Office in 2016 and came from Western Virginia Regional Jail, and the Roanoke County Sheriff’s Office before that.

He is a member of our Crisis Intervention Team (CIT). He is responsible for CIT, court security and civil process.


   Deputy Jeffrey Revin joined the sheriff’s office in 2016 and came from the Juvenile Detention Center in Montgomery County.

He is a member of our Crisis Intervention Team (CIT). He is responsible for CIT, court security and civil process.


   Deputy Walton Brown Joined the sheriff’s office in 2016, already having served our city for 16 years working for the Parks and Recreation Department.

He is a member of our Crisis Intervention Team (CIT). He is responsible for CIT, court security and civil process.


   Deputy Joshua Moore joined the sheriff’s office in 2018.

He had previously worked for the Western Virginia Regional Jail and as an EMT before that. He is a member of our Crisis Intervention Team (CIT). He is responsible for CIT, court security and civil process.


   Deputy Stanley Moore joined the sheriff’s office in 2006.

Although he retired from full-time in 2016, he remains a part of the office as a part-time deputy. He helps with security in the schools during the school year, and also provides additional court security and assists with inmate transports for the sheriff’s office.




   Shannon Linkous joined the sheriff’s office in 2018, having come from the Treasurer’s office for the city.

She was hired as both the secretary and Accreditation Manager.She is responsible for administrative duties, including Good Morning Radford, TRIAD and maintaining the files for the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission accreditation.
